The creators of Netflix’s mystery thriller hit Wayward may have initially envisioned the show as a limited series, but recent developments suggest the project could receive a Season 2. In a recent interview, Toni Collette, who plays Tall Pines Academy head teacher Evelyn Wade in the series, said she would be open to reprising her role if the show returns. She also shared an update regarding discussions around a potential sequel.
Toni Collette discusses potential Wayward Season 2
While speaking to ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley about her latest film, Goodbye June, the Academy Award nominee expressed interest in returning as Evelyn Wade in Wayward Season 2, if Netflix chooses to move forward with another season.
“Hell yeah. We had the best time. Are you kidding? And I love Mae [Martin],” Collette said. She also revealed that she and Martin, the creator of the Netflix series, have already discussed possible directions for a continuation. “We’ve talked about potential storylines, but I thought it had been buried. Maybe there is some hope. I don’t know. I would totally do it,” the 53-year-old actress added.
In an earlier interview, Wayward creator and co-showrunner Mae Martin also addressed the possibility of a second season, saying, “I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell, I think. We left all those characters in crisis, basically.”
Other cast members, including Sydney Topliffe and Alyvia Alyn Lind, have also shared their interest in returning. “I would love to come back,” said Topliffe, who plays Abbie in the series, during a previous interview. Lind has also publicly encouraged Martin to continue the story, stating, “Mae, if you’re listening, we’re here. We’re ready.”
Despite comments from the cast and creators, Netflix has not officially announced a renewal for Wayward Season 2. For now, viewers can stream the first season, which consists of eight episodes, on Netflix.
