Rihanna and Beyonce shared an amicable bond for several years despite being two renowned stars of the pop industry. However, the duo of noted singers hasn’t made public appearances together since 2017, which has led to speculation about a rift in their relationship. While there are several theories about the reason behind the alleged strain in Rihanna and Beyonce’s relationship, a few insiders recently revealed a key factor that caused the two to become frenemies.
Insiders revealed what caused Beyonce and Rihanna to become ‘frenemies’
Dailymail recently spoke to several insiders about the factors that soured the sweet relationship between Beyonce and Rihanna. Most of them agreed on the point that the two pop stars shared an amicable relationship earlier.
One of the insiders claimed that Beyonce was reportedly the primary force behind Rihanna’s signing with Def Jam Records in 2005, which had her husband, Jay Z, as the president back then. The then-CEO of the record company, L. A. Reid, confirmed Beyonce’s role in Rihanna’s signing with Def Jam. Beyoncé came up to me. “‘That Rihanna girl,’ she said, ‘she’s a beast,'” he wrote in his memoir.
However, another insider counted Rihanna’s friend, Jason Lee, as a major point of conflict between the two pop stars. Lee, the founder of the controversial celebrity gossip site Hollywood Unlocked, has provoked Beyonce and her celebrity husband, Jay Z, publicly, claiming to have significant pieces of undisclosed information about the power couple.
In a December 2023 episode of his podcast, Lee made a shocking revelation, saying, “Beyoncé’s good internet would go crazy,” if he reveals the secrets he knows about them.
While it isn’t known when or how Rihanna forged a friendship with Lee, but her association with such a public enemy of Beyonce allegedly tarnished her relationship with the Crazy In Love singer. According to the insider, Beyonce was “hurt” by Rihanna’s connection with Lee, after which the distance between them has reportedly increased.
The two might continue to have a similarly rocky relationship until a third person takes things into their hands and sorts out the differences.
