Heated Rivalry’s François Arnaud Explains Scott’s Big Scene in Episode 3

With Heated Rivalry Episode 3’s developments effectively breaking the audience’s hearts, François Arnaud has unpacked his character’s journey. The Canadian actor plays New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter in the series. He recently opened up about what went down in the latest Heated Rivalry episode. Furthermore, Arnaud highlighted the differences between Scott and Kip that ultimately resulted in their separation.

François Arnaud says Scott’s dilemma in Heated Rivalry Episode 3 was ‘heart-wrenching’

During a recent conversation, the Midnight, Texas alum broke down how Scott’s decision to keep his sexuality a secret ended up driving a permanent wedge between him and Kip (Robbie G.K.) in Heated Rivalry, despite their sincerity towards one another.

“I think for definitely the first half of the episode, he feels so emotionally available to this [relationship] and thinks he can just have his cake and eat it too, and he is a bit selfish because he’s so consumed by his own feelings that, until [Kip’s best friend] Elena tells him how miserable it’s making Kip, he’s not really taking that into consideration how hard it is for him,” François Arnaud noted to TV Guide. “So he thinks he can just have this double life and that that’s enough for now, and he doesn’t understand the toll that it will take on Kip to do that.”

In Heated Rivalry Episode 3, Scott Hunter inadvertently sparks a relationship with Kip, a smoothie shop employee. The two quickly develop feelings for each other and decide to move in. However, Scott’s reluctance to divulge his sexuality ultimately forces him to part ways with Kip. Moreover, his affection towards his hockey family adds to their differences.

François Arnaud also talked about the moment when Scott breaks up with Kip. “That’s what’s heart-wrenching at the end for me because he wants to be ready, but he understands he’s not ready. He has to let the person he loves go because he loves him — and he does,” he stated.

The 40-year-old actor further explained Scott’s ideology. He added, “He’s sacrificed so much of his life for hockey, which gave a lot back to him in return, and [coming out] is just not something that he sees that he can do. But it tortures him, and it makes him really miserable.”

Heated Rivalry is currently streaming on HBO Max.
