Whoopi Goldberg Returns to The View, Explains Her 2-Week Absence

In what many may have found surprising, Whoopi Goldberg was not on The View for two weeks. Upon her return to the talk show, the actress-comedian explained why she had been off the air for so long. And the reason is quite fascinating.

Whoopi Goldberg missed two weeks on The View to film an Italian soap

Whoopi Goldberg‘s absence from The View is quite rare, and fans noticed she was missing for about two weeks. The latest episode revealed that the Oscar-winner was off to Italy for a shoot. It turns out she was shooting a guest role in the Italian soap opera Un Posto Al Sole.

“We should say ‘bienvenuto,'” co-host Ana Navarro joked upon Goldberg’s return on the December 1, 2025, episode of The View (via E! News), “cause I think this b***h has forgotten to speak English.” The 70-year-old asserted that Navarro was not really wrong. “I don’t know what language I’m thinking in,” she responded, “What time zone I’m in?”

Goldberg, however, revealed that her trip abroad was “really good.” She explained, “I learned a lot because I’d never done a soap opera before.” The Ghost star added, “And so doing a soap opera in a different language, in a different country, made for a really interesting time. It was great.”

Goldberg shared many videos of the work in Italy with her co-hosts. “I just wanted y’all to know I was actually working,” she added about this on The View.

But despite being in one of the most beautiful places in the world, she did not encounter the best weather in Naples. Goldberg explained, “It rained every day.” She added, “And I don’t mean like, ‘Oh, it’s raining, how beautiful.’ It was like, ‘rain, rain, storm, thunder.’ It was crazy.”

Besides the weather, things went well for Whoopi Goldberg.

The episodes she featured in will reportedly air in 2026.
