Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Weird’ Behaviour Could’ve Ended Colin Jost Romance on First Date

Scarlett Johansson recently talked about the unexpectedly awkward moment that nearly sabotaged her relationship with Colin Jost before it even began. The actress revealed that her “weird” reaction during their very first date left the Saturday Night Live star convinced they weren’t a match.

Scarlett Johansson recalls first date with Colin Jost

Scarlett Johansson says her romance with Colin Jost didn’t start as smoothly as fans might imagine. Speaking on a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, which she co-hosted, the actress admitted she had little dating experience and felt completely out of depth. “My first date with Colin, honestly, nobody ever really asked me out before,” Johansson said. “It’s true. I was a serial monogamist, and I just never got the traditional, ‘Hey, would you like to have dinner sometime?’” she added.

The pair officially connected in 2017 when Jost asked her to dinner. Johansson recalled that their evening began pleasantly at an Italian restaurant in New York’s East Village. “It was a lovely date,” she said. “We had dinner at 8 p.m. or whatever, and then afterwards, he was like, ‘I’m meeting friends, let’s go grab a drink.’ And I hadn’t dated basically ever, and so I was like, ‘I have to go now. I need to leave’,” she further revealed.

That abrupt exit turned into an unintentionally awkward moment. Johansson headed home so early that even her babysitter questioned it. “I got home to relieve my babysitter, and it was like 9:36, and she was like, ‘Why are you home?!’” Johansson shared, adding, “I was like, ‘I went on this date, and it was.…’ I just felt so flustered.”

Similarly, it got Jost confused as well. “Later on, he was like, ‘I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird’,” Johansson said, admitting, “I panicked. I don’t know.” Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost first met back in 2006 when Johansson hosted Saturday Night Live. However, their romantic relationship didn’t begin until over a decade later. She and Jost, married in 2020, now share a son.
