A recent rumor suggests that Callum Turner is the new favorite to take on the role of James Bond. Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming reboot of the action-thriller espionage franchise has yet to cast its leading man.
However, speculation about who would play the suave and highly skilled MI6 agent has been going strong. Besides Turner, names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill have been suggested by fans as Daniel Craig‘s successor as Bond.
Callum Turner sparks James Bond rumors
Callum Turner is reportedly the new “red hot” favorite to play James Bond and succeed Daniel Craig, according to a source from the betting company Coral (via The Standard). They further revealed that the actor’s odds of playing Bond have changed from 5-2 to 7-4 after a big boost in the betting over the last 24 actors considered for the part.
Meanwhile, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Divergent star Theo James are reportedly in second place with 3-1. The two are followed by:
- Henry Cavill at 6-1
- Anthony Boyle at 10-1
- Harris Dickinson at 12-1
- Jack Lowden and James Norton at 16-1
Turner has been rumored to be a favorite for the role of James Bond for a while. Time & Tide reported last month, citing betting website VegasInsider, that Turner overtook Taylor-Johnson as the favorite to play Bond with odds of +262 (implied probability: 27.6%).
Meanwhile, the latter secured second place with odds of +280 (implied probability: 26.3%). They were followed by Cavill in third place (odds: +762; implied probability: 11.6%), James in fourth place (+964; implied probability: 9.4%), and Lowden and Dickinson in fifth place (+1534; implied probability: 6.1%).
Rumors of Turner being a favorite for Bond were fueled by a recent report from The Telegraph. The report suggested that the actor and his fiancée, Dua Lipa, likely spent some time at the GoldenEye resort in Oracabessa Bay in Jamaica during the summer. Notably, this resort was once James Bond author Ian Fleming’s estate, where he wrote his novels based on the character.
Turner has been recognized for his work in projects like the Fantastic Beasts film franchise and Masters of the Air. He recently garnered attention for his role in A24’s romantic comedy Eternity, co-starring Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller.
