Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman’s Fantasy Movie Arrives Soon on Prime Video

Sandra Bullock’s fantasy movie is gearing up to reach new audiences on streaming just as excitement builds for its long-awaited sequel. The return of the Owens family arrives at a perfect moment, giving viewers a chance to revisit the cult-favorite movie before the next one releases in theaters.

Practical Magic begins streaming on Prime Video in December

Prime Video will begin streaming Practical Magic on December 30, bringing the 1998 romantic comedy fantasy back into the mix ahead of its sequel. This allows both longtime fans and newcomers to fall under the film’s spell just as anticipation builds for the sequel, slated for a 2026 theatrical release.

For the uninitiated, Practical Magic is a romantic comedy fantasy based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel. Directed by Griffin Dunne, the film stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, respectively. Raised by their eccentric aunts, Jet and Franny (played by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing), the sisters grew up learning the uses of practical magic in a household where chocolate cake for breakfast was the norm.

However, their magical heritage comes with a heavy price. They have a family curse that dooms any man they love. The story follows the very different sisters as they must unite and use their powers to battle this curse and other supernatural forces that threaten their lives.

Now, Practical Magic 2 is officially happening and will come out on September 18, 2026. The sequel draws from Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic, the fourth one in the literary series. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original screenplay, returns to write the script with Georgia Pritchett. Susanne Bier will direct. The returning cast is Bullock, Kidman, Wiest, and Channing.

Newcomers to the magical world include Joey King, who will play one of Sally’s daughters. They are joined by Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.
