Ravens linebacker Dre’Mont Jones publicly addressed one of the team’s most talked‑about storylines this week after receiving a $14,055 fine from the NFL. The veteran defender called out the league for penalizing him over a celebratory gesture made during Baltimore’s Week 12 win.
Dre’Mont Jones takes a jab at NFL after punishment
The NFL fined Baltimore Ravens linebacker Dre’Mont Jones $14,055 for making a “violent gesture” during Week 12’s win over the New York Jets. The league cited a throat-slashing hand signal Jones made after a late fourth-quarter sack. In that game, he delivered his best performance since joining the Ravens, recording four tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Jones reacted to the fine on social media, sarcastically referencing the financial impact it would have on his family. “I was just saying ‘it’s over’ like in a competitive sense and now my kids aren’t gonna have Christmas gifts this year #ThankYouNFL,” he posted on X. The comment was widely interpreted as a sarcastic jab at the league’s disciplinary action.
Jones signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Tennessee Titans to start the 2025 NFL season. The deal included a $6 million signing bonus and nearly $8 million guaranteed. The Seattle Seahawks released Dre’Mont Jones earlier in the year. The Tennessee Titans then traded him to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.
In Week 13, following his standout performance against the Jets, Jones and the Ravens suffered a 32–14 loss to the Bengals. He did not record a sack or pressure and earned a 35.5 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus. The Ravens hold a 6–6 record and share the AFC North standings with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who they will face in Week 14. Jones is aiming to secure the first postseason appearance of his seven-year NFL career.
Jones may appeal the NFL’s decision to fine him for the celebratory gesture. Similar gestures by other players have typically not led to fines.
