Taylor Swift Eyed for a Disney Princess Role – Report

A new report has sparked speculation that Taylor Swift could play a Disney princess in an upcoming project. A recent update points to the studio expressing interest in the singer for a major role. The reported information offers an early look at a developing casting discussion within Disney’s live-action slate.

Taylor Swift rumored to play a Disney princess

A new rumor circulated after industry insider MyTimeToShineHello posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Disney wants Taylor Swift to play a Disney Princess.”

The post did not specify a character and did not confirm any casting decision. The update followed earlier online speculation linking Swift to the role of Rapunzel in Disney’s developing live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated film Tangled. The remake was first reported to be in development in late 2024.

Swift has not been officially cast to play Rapunzel, according to previous reports. MyTimeToShineHello suggested in earlier posts that she was being considered. Disney has released no information regarding Swift’s potential involvement. Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that Disney was considering Florence Pugh for Rapunzel. He also stated that the studio was eyeing Kathryn Hahn for the role of Mother Gothel.

Mandy Moore, the original voice of Rapunzel, named Sabrina Carpenter as a potential casting choice in a 2024 interview with Elite Daily, stating, “I could see her with 50 feet of hair or something. She looks like a Disney princess in real life.” The official cast for the live-action project remains unannounced. A Deadline report stated that Michael Gracey was in talks to direct the film with a script draft by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Additional casting speculation emerged when MyTimeToShineHello reported, “I hear that an actress from The White Lotus is the frontrunner to play Rapunzel in Tangled.” The post did not name the actress. Gigi Hadid revealed she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel before early development delays.

Reports also listed Sarah Catherine Hook, Aimee Lou Wood, and Sydney Sweeney, among others, as contenders. Scarlett Johansson earlier said of her potential involvement as Mother Gothel, “What would excite me about it would be the opportunity to work with Michael Gracey… an extraordinary visionary.”

With all these names circulating around, it remains to be seen who officially gets cast in the movie.
