AI Tributes to Robert Redford Criticized by Late Actor’s Daughter

Robert Redford‘s daughter, Amy Redford, is speaking out against the growing number of AI-generated tributes for her late father. These AI videos, tributes and fabricated quotes are spreading online just months after his passing and Amy says they are making her family’s grief even harder.

Amy Redford criticizes ‘extra challenging’ AI tributes to Robert Redford

Amy Redford took to Instagram to explain that AI-generated funerals, quotes and images of her father are not helping her family during this painful period. She thanked fans for the “overwhelming” support her family has received after her father’s passing.

Amy said the messages, letters, and tributes from around the world have deeply moved them. She also addressed the growing issue of fake AI-generated images and quotes being shared online. “There have been multiple AI versions of funerals, tributes, and quotes from members of my family that are fabrications,” she wrote.

She said these false images and messages make the grieving process even harder for her family. “Renderings of my dad, who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time. We are grieving together, and we are all in support of one another.”

Redford further wrote, “We have not had a public funeral; we are working out our plans for a memorial in the future. Every family should have the ability to mourn, represent the person they lost, and pay homage in the way that fits their values and family culture best.”

Amy said AI “isn’t going anywhere” but urged people to use it responsibly and consider how they’d feel in her place. “AI isn’t going anywhere. My hope is to keep AI in the land of transparent usage where it belongs. There are many elements of it that were created with good intent. I simply ask, what if this was you? Let that be your guidepost,” she concluded.

With her message, Amy urged people to use technology thoughtfully and respect grieving families. Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at age 89 in Sundance, Utah surrounded by loved ones.
