Travis Kelce’s Potential TD Wiped Out By Facemask Penalty

Travis Kelce‘s potential 85th career touchdown was wiped out in the Kansas City Chiefs’ vs. the Indianapolis Colts game after his TD score was negated. Notably, the Chiefs secured a 23-20 victory against the Colts on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. Recently, the 35-year-old broke the NFL record for most touchdowns during the Chiefs’ devastating loss to the Denver Broncos.

How Travis Kelce’s TD was wiped out during Colts Match

Travis Kelce scored his 85th touchdown during the first quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, 23 November 2025, at Arrowhead Stadium. He lined up in the shotgun formation and directly rushed through the middle of the defense and into the end zone. Before scoring, he faked a hand-off to wide receiver Rashee Rice. Subsequently, viewers believed that the Chiefs scored six points on the board and could tie the game with an extra Harrison Butker point.

However, NFL officials called offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor for a facemask, resulting in the Chiefs receiving a 15-yard personal foul penalty, which removed the touchdown from the board.

However, footage of the replay revealed that Taylor didn’t grab Colts defensive lineman Kwity Paye. He merely put his arm across the latter’s helmet, which he briefly made contact with.

Fans took note of this, with many stating that it wasn’t a facemask but a hold. “I don’t even like the Chiefs but that is just not a facemask,” one user wrote.

“Wasn’t a facemask but I guess the refs always glaze the chiefs,” another added.

“Maaayyybe holding but definitely not a face mask,” yet another user wrote.

“If it’s not a face mask it’s holding lol,” a user shared.

However, some supported the officials’ call. “Finally calling the Chief on penalties they have gotten away with for years,” a user commented. “Good call. Hand was on the face mask,” a user wrote.

Moreover, Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo criticized the decision, stressing that they “wasted a great play.” “This has happened three or four times in games we’ve been doing recently,” he added. “Now you’ve just lost a great play, and that’s not a 15-yard penalty.” (via The Sun)

Despite the call, the Chiefs managed to dominate the Colts’ offense and secure a 23-20 victory.
