It is the most promising progress the series has seen in years, sparking excitement among the series’ fans.
Justin Wilkes talks Jack Bauer’s return in 24 revival project
Imagine Entertainment president Justin Wilkes recently confirmed that discussions surrounding the revival of 24 have gained momentum. While speaking about the project, Wilkes said the timing feels appropriate given the current global climate. “It’s a little bit informal at this point, but if you look at Russia, Ukraine, and just the theater of Europe right now, the world needs Jack Bauer,” he said. Wilkes did not disclose any details about a storyline or casting. However, his comments hint that the studio is evaluating the next step for the franchise. Whether Kiefer Sutherland will reprise his role as Bauer has not yet been confirmed. However, Sutherland has publicly expressed interest in returning to the franchise, stating, “It’s something I would really like to do. I would like to close that story.”
Earlier this month, showrunner Howard Gordon also acknowledged that development is underway. Speaking to Deadline, Gordon said, “It is absolutely in process, there is something we are developing.” However, he also stated that the project still needs approval from Disney.
Gordon emphasized that quality remains the priority, noting that he has no interest in developing a revival “that’s not good.” He added, “So it has to be something that you connect to, or at least you tell yourself you’re connected to. It may not turn out very well, but you have to at least believe that it’s something.”
24 originally premiered in 2001 and ran for nine seasons, concluding in 2014.
