Ariana Grande has spoken publicly about her upcoming appearance on the December 20 Christmas episode of SNL. She will host the broadcast alongside musical guest Cher.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Grande described her reaction to learning she would be sharing the stage with Cher. She said, “I’m so excited. I almost passed out. I had no idea what to do. What an honor.” The singer told Fallon that she learned about Cher’s involvement only two days before it was announced.

Grande also remarked on the tone of the upcoming episode, saying, “She’s the icon. This is one of the gayest SNL episodes that they’ve done, right?” Although Grande did not reveal any details about the sketches or musical performances planned for the night, her comments have already generated significant anticipation for the episode.

Cher’s appearance marks her first full musical guest performance on Saturday Night Live since November 21, 1987, when she performed “We All Sleep Alone” and “I Found Someone.” Since then, she has only appeared in cameos, including her brief appearance in 1992 and her performance at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert earlier this year. Grande’s December 20 episode will close out the show’s 2025 lineup and will bring Cher back to Studio 8H nearly four decades after her last musical guest appearance.

Grande and Fallon also sang together during the interview, making it the first time the pair have performed a duet on the show. She also spoke briefly about her upcoming musical film Wicked: For Good during the conversation.
