A source close to the pair said the breakup happened “this past week.” The insider noted that the former couple’s dynamic had become increasingly unstable. They described it as “rocky and toxic” and said it ultimately became “too much” for Ballerini.

According to Us Weekly, Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes have ended their relationship once again after attempting a brief reconciliation. A source familiar with the situation said the pair decided to part ways “this past week.” The insider described the dynamic between the country star and the “Outer Banks” actor as increasingly strained. Moreover, their relationship had become “so rocky and toxic” and ultimately “too much for Kelsea.”
As per the source, tensions were compounded by issues of jealousy. The insider claimed, “Jealousy definitely got in the way,” adding that Ballerini struggled with lingering trust concerns. These difficulties were allegedly influenced in part by her past marriage to Morgan Evans. Ballerini and Evans finalized their divorce in November 2022 after separating earlier that year, and rebuilding trust has remained “hard for her.”
Despite these challenges, the source emphasized that Ballerini still has feelings for Stokes, saying she “of course cares” about him. However, the demands of her career and what were described as “a lot of expectations” placed additional pressure on the relationship. Stokes, for his part, “really did try to make it work and loves her,” the insider added. At present, the former couple “aren’t talking.”
Even with the split, there is reportedly still a possibility of reconciliation. The source stated that “there’s a chance they could get back together,” though for now they are “taking space” from one another.
