Jennifer Lawrence says One Battle After Another is the ‘best movie’ she has ever seen

The No Hard Feelings actress appeared in the latest episode of BAFTA and Samsung’s Play Back. In the episode, she played clips from and discussed her latest film, Die My Love, her breakthrough film, Winter’s Bone, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.

Before reacting to a clip from One Battle After Another, Lawrence remarked that it was “the best movie [she has] ever seen.” The clip in question shows DiCaprio’s character, Bob, talking to someone over a payphone. Bob tells them that Steven J. Lockjaw attacked his home and demands that the person at the end of the call tell him their rendezvous point. While watching the clip, Lawrence said, “Time is an illusion, but it controls us anyway.”

After seeing the clip, Lawrence stated she couldn’t recall a time when she had a “shared” cinema experience like the one she had watching One Battle After Another. She added that the audience “applauded” the film after it finished.

She continued, recalling thanking her husband, Cooke Maroney, repeatedly for booking tickets to the film two weeks in advance. “And I just couldn’t say anything else other than just like, thank you for that experience,” she further recalled. The 35-year-old encouraged viewers to see the film in theaters, saying, “I think it’s an impossible pace to uphold.”

Lawrence then praised the film and its performances. She noted that the film didn’t “drag” at any point and pointed out how director Paul Thomas Anderson had “so many characters inside of him.” She added, “And they’re all so visceral, so real that you’re, it’s so alive and you’re in it.”

“Every character, you are, you know them and you see them,” she continued. “I mean, the performances are unbelievable. Sean Penn, I mean, Leo, obviously, but I mean, my God.”
