Beloved Shrek Movie Spin-off To Become a Trilogy – Report

Rumors surrounding the future of the Puss in Boots franchise have gained new traction as a recent report suggests that DreamWorks may be moving ahead with a third installment. The speculation, sparked by a well-known industry scooper, has prompted renewed excitement among fans.

Another Puss in Boots movie rumored to be in the works

Reports of a new Puss in Boots film have resurfaced after industry scooper Daniel RPK claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that DreamWorks is quietly developing another installment in the franchise. As of now, the studio has not issued any confirmation about a third movie. However, the claim has sparked speculation about the future of the franchise.

The possibility of a continuation has been a subject of discussion since early 2023. At the time, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish director Joel Crawford addressed questions about a potential third film. He noted that no further projects had entered development, but a positive audience response would help one come about.

The director stated, “I don’t know what’s going on with anything after this, but it was all this hopeful thing of we love these characters. We believe in this story that we’re telling, and we hope that audiences will engage with it and demand more stories, both with the Puss and Boots side and also with Shrek.”

He added, “I feel like I can say based on the world’s reception of it, that it does feel like they’ve said ‘Yes, we want more,’ which I’m so happy about. But honestly, I hope to keep getting to tell stories with all of these characters.” (via The Playlist)

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was released in 2022, earned more than $480 million globally and generated an exceptional critical reception. This includes a 95 percent Rotten Tomatoes score based on 195 reviews and an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The conclusion of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also leaves room for future stories, as Puss, Kitty, and Perrito set off for the Kingdom of Far Far Away. Although DreamWorks has not issued any confirmation regarding another installment, the film’s strong box office performance and audience response indicate that a future sequel remains a possibility.
