New Hunger Games Movie Trailer’s Release Date Possibly Revealed

The next Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping, is reportedly preparing to debut its first trailer. The movie will focus on the 50th Hunger Games, aka the second Quarter Quell, which took place 24 years before the storyline of Katniss Everdeen. This edition of the Games was won by Haymitch Abernathy, a character portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original films.

The Hunger Games prequel could get its first trailer soon

Scooper Daniel Richtman posted on Patreon that the trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will arrive on Thursday, November 20. The update states that the teaser trailer will deliver the first official footage from the 2026 release. Lionsgate set the theatrical debut for November 20, 2026, exactly one year after the reported scheduled teaser drop.

Joseph Zada plays the young Haymitch, joining a cast that includes Whitney Peak, Ralph Fiennes, Mckenna Grace, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, and Kieran Culkin. The project began filming in Spain earlier this year and remains underway.

Reports indicate that the teaser will feature limited material because filming is still in progress. A Panem propaganda banner recently revealed the first on-set look at Ralph Fiennes as the new President Snow. Tom Blyth and late Donald Sutherland portrayed earlier versions of the character.

The timing of the trailer matches a recent wider industry pattern of releasing previews far ahead of major films. Christopher Nolan seems to have used this approach for The Odyssey. That film released its first look nearly a year before its scheduled July 17, 2026, debut.

As per reports, Marvel Studios is expected to release the first trailer for its highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie in time for Avatar: Fire and Ash in December. Other studios appear to be positioning key 2026 trailers ahead of the release of Avatar 3.
