Apple fans might have to wait until 2027 to get their hands on the iPhone 18. Reports suggest that the latest model is slated for a 2027 launch as Apple transitions to a staggered release cycle. The tech giant is shaking things up with the upcoming release, starting with a significant change in its launch strategy, aiming to be better and faster than its fellow competitors.
Report suggests Apple is planning to release iPhone 18 in 2027
Deviating from the usual fall launch for all models, Apple is introducing a new release schedule for its products. Users expecting the iPhone 18’s release in 2026 have some news coming their way. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple isn’t just working on new devices, including the iPhone 18 series and its first-ever foldable iPhone, but also switching to a whole new release strategy.
Gurman revealed that starting in 2026, Apple will split its iPhone 18 lineup into two launch windows. Fall 2026 (early September/October) will witness the release of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, in Spring 2027, the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and possibly an updated iPhone Air will follow.
The strategy shift is the result of due consideration of certain factors as well as the company’s drawbacks. Gurman reports that while Apple’s fall iPhone event has been the highlight of the year, it puts immense pressure on engineering teams and suppliers, and concentrates Apple’s revenue into just one quarter. The 2024 Apple Intelligence rollout issues are a consequence of piling all major launches into one season. Hence, the staggered release model aims at the following:
- Reducing pressure on engineering, marketing, and design teams
- Giving each device its own spotlight
- Respond faster to competitors like Samsung
- Even out revenue, thereby reducing dependence on holiday sales
Besides, Apple’s got a game changer in the works. The tech giant is reportedly working on an ultra-premium iPhone for 2027. With features such as a curved glass screen, an under-display front camera, and a revamped internal structure, this device will be priced above the Pro Max, pushing and redefining the boundaries of iPhone design.
