Christy Martin Says Sydney Sweeney ‘Worked Her A** Off’ Amid Criticism

Christy Martin comes in support of Sydney Sweeney, following Ruby Rose‘s criticism of the actress’ work in Christy. A few days back, Rose took to Threads to share her thoughts on the lackluster box office performance of Christy, placing the blame on Sweeney. She called the Anyone But You star a “cretin” and held her accountable for “ruining” the movie while also slamming Sweeney’s PR team.

Martin took to Instagram to share a brief note supporting Sweeney, praising her dedication to the challenging role. She wrote, “I’ve always been a fighter. My life reflected that in every way and now I fight for others. The past few days I have seen some people attack my friend Sydney Sweeney.”

Appreciating her hard work and showing support as a friend and ally, she further added, “Syd not only worked her a** off for this film, she worked her a** off for me. For my story. For so many others suffering in silence. So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and ally!”

This post comes in light of Rose slamming Sweeney for her work in Christy. The movie earned just $1.3 in its opening weekend. Rose took to Threads to appreciate the film’s original script and to place blame on Sweeney for the movie flopping.

Her note read, “The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.”

Also calling out her PR team, she added, “For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”
