Justin Baldoni addressed one of the most scrutinized moments surrounding the production of It Ends With Us. He explained what he says happened after a meeting with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
Court documents filed in the ongoing legal dispute include text messages Baldoni sent on Jan. 5, 2024, recounting the encounter at the couple’s New York City apartment. Exhibits in the case show Baldoni describing a “traumatic” confrontation that occurred one day before filming was due to resume. (via People)
Baldoni wrote to actor Rainn Wilson that Reynolds “was talking to me like a five-year-old and scolding me.” He added, “They essentially said that Jamey [Heath] and I are not who we claimed to be and that for us to have a podcast is unsafe because it makes people feel like we are safe.”
According to the filing, Reynolds read a list of allegations from his phone. Baldoni said the claims were based on events “taken completely out of context.” He stated that the words “creepy” and “abuse” were used to describe his behavior.
Baldoni said he was given a written apology to read but “was emotionally paralyzed,” writing, “It’s hard to feel so much of what they believe about me is false because they are so convinced that it’s real.” He added, “I prayed and prayed and prayed for the words and they didn’t come, so I felt abandoned by God in that moment.”
The messages state that the confrontation began after Lively learned Baldoni had asked a trainer about her weight. He said he raised the question because of a lift scene and his history of back problems. The encounter also appeared in Baldoni’s January 2025 complaint. In that filing, he alleged that Reynolds “launched into a tirade” during the meeting.
