New Nicolas Cage Movie Gets Abysmal RT Score & Reviews

The first reviews for Nicolas Cage’s new biblical horror movie, The Carpenter’s Son, have finally arrived, and the critics don’t seem impressed. Additionally, the early Rotten Tomatoes score of The Carpenter’s Son is also out. Apart from Cage, the movie features Noah Jupe and FKA Twigs.

Reviews for The Carpenter’s Son are in

Critics are calling out Nicolas Cage’s upcoming horror movie, The Carpenter’s Son, as ‘boring.’ The film is directed by Lotfy Nathan and focuses on the story of a family in Roman Egypt, whose journey takes a dark turn.

Here are the reviews of The Carpenter’s Son.

Greggory Nussen of Screen Rant wrote, “Nathan’s film is intriguing and frequently unsettling, with an especially magnetic denouement, but it doesn’t stand on its own two feet without the pre-knowledge of its source material. Most damning, however, is the entirely bizarre casting of Nicolas Cage and FKA twigs as the boy’s adopted parents.”

Meanwhile, William Bibbiani of The Wrap stated, “‘The Carpenter’s Son’ is a Biblical horror movie with interesting ideas. They just don’t seem interesting because the perspective is cockeyed, which nullifies the film’s ability to trouble our hearts.”

Additionally, FandomWire’s Sean Boelman wrote, “It’s a bad movie, and not because of blasphemy or historical inaccuracy, but simply because it feels like you are watching paint dry for an hour and a half.”

AV Club’s Jacob Oller wrote, “It takes dedication to make a dull movie where Nicolas Cage plays Joseph and Jesus gets into a fistfight with Satan, but The Carpenter’s Son sets to its task with devotion, if little else.”

Lastly, Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon wrote, “Some will watch The Carpenter’s Son and see it as a visually arresting genre-fied piece of biblical fanfiction. I just saw a horror movie without enough ideas or tension to be truly disturbing. I like horror movies, and I don’t think the film managed to hook me from a scare standpoint.”

How much did The Carpenter’s Son score on Rotten Tomatoes?

The Carpenter’s Son hasn’t been able to get a satisfactory score on Rotten Tomatoes. On the contrary, the biblical horror film has received a poor score based on the 20 critic reviews. Cage’s movie has a score of just 33 percent on the Tomatometer.

Written by Lotfy Nathan, The Carpenter’s Son will be out in theaters in the US on Friday, November 14, 2025.
