NBA Coach Backs IShowSpeed for College Basketball, Fans Disagree

NBA shooting coach Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews appeared in the latest episode of IShowSpeed‘s YouTube series Speed Goes Pro. The November 12 episode saw Speed train to play basketball with NBA legend Kevin Durant. However, Matthews’ claim that Speed was on par with college basketball players sparked disagreement among fans.

Fans not happy with NBA coach suggesting IShowSpeed to play college basketball

At the start of Speed Goes Pro Episode 4, Speed trained with Chris Matthews, also known as Lethal Shooter, learning how to shoot the ball. “Watching him now, I don’t say this a lot, that’s a pure athlete right there,” Matthews said about Speed as they trained together. Speed then went on to meet with Kevin Durant, playing a 2v2 alongside him, as well as going against him in basketball drills. Meanwhile, after the episode came out, Matthews took to Instagram to share his time spent training Speed in a post captioned, “Speed should be playing D1 basketball!”

This statement from the “Lethal Shooter” instantly sparked disagreement among fans. They did not hold back in the comments section, weighing in with their personal views. One fan wrote, “With a shot that slow. Fawk no,” while another commented, “Playing D1 basketball FOR WHO? Stop trolling.” A few fans also suggested he should rather play football than basketball, and some just spammed laughing emojis. Another fan implied that facing opponents would make a difference, saying, “So him hitting 6 wide open 3s in a row means he would be able to play D1 basketball? Come on now lmao.”

Further in Episode 4 of Speed Goes Pro, Speed trains with athletic performance coach Clif Marshall before meeting with KD. He then takes on basketball drills on the court with Durant, eventually unofficially breaking the world record for the NBA Combine 3/4 Sprint, setting a time of 2.805 seconds.
