Glen Powell revealed Tom Cruise‘s secret nickname in a new interview. He also briefly touched upon his close relationship with the Hollywood veteran and how the latter has been supportive of him. Powell and Cruise collaborated on 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick and have shared a close bond since then. Cruise, a known cinephile, recently showed his support for Powell’s latest film, The Running Man, by joining him at a screening for the film.

In a recent interview with IndieWire‘s Mike Ryan, Powell was reminded of a time when he mentioned receiving advice from Tom Cruise about running at night. The interviewer also pointed out that the Chad Powers actor called Cruise “TC,” adding that they didn’t know the 63-year-old had such a nickname.
“Oh, really?” Powell asked, expressing surprise that people were unaware of the nickname. “Everybody in his life calls him that,” he added.
Ryan asked Powell if only people close to Cruise could call him “TC.” “He’s TC, yeah,” Powell replied, adding, “I’ll call him Cruise, TC. But yeah, TC is how most people refer to him.”
The 37-year-old then revealed that he met Cruise the other night and briefly discussed their shared professional journey.
“It’s so wild the journey he and I have kind of been on together,” Powell shared. “From starting the journey of Top Gun and riding that wave through COVID and figuring out what the theatrical landscape would look like on the other side of it,” he added.
The Anyone But You star further highlighted that Cruise has constantly been there for him “as a friend and a mentor.” Powell expressed his surprise at Cruise’s staunch support, noting that it was atypical of movie stars. He called the Mission: Impossible star a “very rare type of person” who wished for his colleagues’ success.
Notably, Cruise recently showed support for Powell’s The Running Man by attending a screening of the film. He shared his experience on Instagram, praising the cast and crew’s work. “Another great night out with my friends at the movies! You guys crushed it, congratulations!” he captioned the post, and added, “I laughed, was on the edge of my seat, and ate way too much popcorn.”
Powell acknowledged Cruise’s support with his own Instagram post, and wrote, “The Running Man with THE Running Man.”
