Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, Christy failed to make an impact on the box office. The biographical sports drama opened to just $1.3 million following its theatrical debut on November 7. However, Sweeney’s performance as the titular protagonist has garnered widespread acclaim.

Sánchez Bezos’ support for the movie comes just two days after Sweeney penned a heartfelt post about the movie on her Instagram. The actress shared a carousel of stills from Christy, declaring that she is “so deeply proud of this movie.”

“This film stands for survival, courage, and hope,” Sweeney penned in the caption. “Through our campaigns, we’ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives,” she added.

The actress concluded by saying, “We don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”

Directed by David Michôd, Christy tells the incredible story of former professional boxer Christy Martin and her remarkable rise to fame. One of the most impactful figures in the sport, Martin became a popular female boxer in the 1990s. She also became known for surviving an attempted murder by her husband and former coach.

Besides Sweeney, the movie also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, and Ethan Embry, among others.
