English Teacher Season 3 Gets a Disappointing Update

FX has canceled one of its most critically acclaimed comedies, English Teacher, despite the show’s stellar reception and perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

FX cancels English Teacher after two seasons

FX has pulled the plug on English Teacher after two seasons, as per Deadline. The hit sitcom, created by and featuring Brian Jordan Alvarez, will not return for a third installment. English Teacher was one of FX’s most well-received comedies in recent years. Season 1 scored 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 achieved a 100% rating.

The series follows Evan Marquez (played by Alvarez), a gay high school English teacher in Austin, as he navigates personal drama, workplace politics, and community conflicts in a sharp, satirical tone. The cast includes Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Carmen Christopher, Enrico Colantoni, and Jordan Firstman. While FX reportedly did not give a reason for the cancellation, the news comes just six weeks after the second season premiered in September 2025.

Last year, Alvarez was accused of sexual assault by his former friend and co-star, Jon Ebeling. The duo worked together in Alvarez’s 2015 web series, The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo. Initially, Ebeling went public with the allegations on Instagram and later detailed them in a December 2024 New York Magazine article. The accusations also implicated Stephanie Koenig, Ebeling’s ex-girlfriend, whom he alleged helped uphold a harmful dynamic.

At the time, FX addressed the allegations with a statement: “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.” FX renewed English Teacher for a Season 2 in early 2025, months after the story broke. However, it has now been cancelled after two seasons. (via Variety)

Although FX did not publicly link the cancellation to the allegations or performance metrics, the network’s silence has seemingly left fans disappointed.
