Days of Our Lives star Suzanne Rogers has shared an encouraging update about her battle with cancer. The soap opera star revealed her diagnosis earlier this year, a discovery that came after she felt that something “wasn’t quite right” about her health.
Suzanne Rogers says she’s ‘feeling so much better’ now
In an interview with PEOPLE at the Days of Our Lives’ 60th anniversary celebration, Suzanne Rogers discussed her cancer journey. She shared that she’s “feeling so much better” and that she’s in “remission” now.
“I mean, my summer was rough,” Rogers added. “I had cancer removed, radiation, that was tough. But I didn’t lose my hair. I guess I got it early. I was stage two, and it was a certain kind of chemo that they gave me. It was pills and the radiation, and it didn’t affect it so that was good,” she shared.
At the same event, the 82-year-old actress told TV Insider that she’s getting her “energy back.” She added, “I’m at about 70%. I wanted to be here [tonight] for [executive producer] Ken [Corday].”
The update provides relief for her fans after the actress revealed her diagnosis of Stage II colorectal cancer. She shared that the news came as a “shock” after her doctors confirmed it with tests. “I think I was in a shock for several days because I take pretty good care of myself. But he said, ‘It’s a good thing you caught it in time.’” Rogers told TV Insider in October.
Following the diagnosis, the soap opera veteran went through chemotherapy five days a week. Her treatment reportedly began in mid-June and took six weeks to complete. She recalled that she “enjoyed the weekends” as it was the only time that she “didn’t have to go to and see a doctor.”
Rogers also admitted that she shared the news only with a select few from the show. She said, “I was able to keep it under wraps and then the show took that break, so it wasn’t necessary to get into it all then.”
Suzanne Rogers is all set to resume work later this month. While she showed enthusiasm about getting back to work, she admitted to feeling anxious. “Now, I’m feeling anxious like I do any time I get scripts because I want to do my very best, and you don’t want to hold up anybody. So that’s the only anxiousness I feel. It’s not because of my illness, let’s put it that way,” she explained.
