Sydney Sweeney’s Movie Flopped Because She Was ‘Covered Up’, Says Model

Model Ella Halikas recently reacted to Sydney Sweeney‘s newest movie, Christy, and its lackluster performance at the box office. Directed by David Michôd, the biographical movie centers on the rise to fame of the renowned female boxer Christy Martin in the 1990s. On its opening weekend, the movie earned just $1.3 million across North America.

TMZ recently spoke with Halikas, who shared her thoughts on Sweeney-starrer Christy flopping at the box office. The outlet’s reporter initially asked her take on the matter. They stated, “A lot of people are saying online it’s not doing the best because she’s not her usual half-naked kind of role.” She agreed with the reporter on this. Halikas further added, “I feel like when you are more covered and you’re not in that role [sexy roles], there kind of we don’t know what to take of it.”

Halikas believed that Sweeney had been accustomed to being perceived in a certain way due to her previous roles. However, now that she has taken on a more unconventional role, Halikas suggested that the audience’s interest seemed to have shifted. “She has branded herself to be this beautiful woman on screen, where they’re gonna see that body, so if they don’t, it’s kind of a different role for her. I feel like maybe you missed the crowd, her audience, that way,” she added.

Following the box office failure, the ‘Euphoria’ actress took to Instagram to share a series of pictures from the sets of Christy. She also shared a lengthy note alongside the pictures. Addressing the movie’s performance, she wrote, “if christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded.” She continued, “so yes I’m proud.” She added, “why? because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact.” The actress concluded, “and christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. i love you.”
