A recent clip of a fan going up to Anthony Mackie’s table to greet him at a restaurant is making the rounds on the internet. Soon after their exchange, the fan posted the video on social media with a text, which read, “When you go tell Captain America you’re a fan and get this response.”
In the snippet, Mackie appears to be enjoying a private time with his friends and family before the fan casually interrupts him by placing his hand on the actor’s back. Instantly, Mackie’s expression appears to change from happy to stern as he patiently nods while hearing what his fan has to say.
Some have called out Mackie for his seemingly cold response, with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing, “Anthony is known for being one of the most rude and unpleasant actor with fans.” Another user highlighted that it is the celebrities’ responsibility to treat their fans with respect, stating, “You’re a celebrity, I hate when celebrities cry about their fans who pay them. And idolize them can’t say hi, you are in a public area. You know you’re famous.”
On the other hand, many have countered by saying that people should respect actors’ privacy in certain social settings. “When are people going to realize that celebrities do not want to be bothered in places like at a restaurant or a public bathroom? People think it’s now or never and they HAVE TO do it lol,” said one fan in Mackie’s support.
