June Squibb discusses her friendship with Chris Colfer
Speaking on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang, June Squibb revealed that she and Colfer have remained close ever since filming Glee together over a decade ago. “Yes, we are heavy-duty buddies,” she said.
She recalled how they first met on set when Colfer, who also wrote the episode. She said, “Well, I met him on Glee and he had written the script and was doing the lead and it was Peter Pan and I was playing Wendy. It’s a whole story.”
In the episode, Colfer’s character Kurt helps an older woman, Maggie, played by June Squibb, who was staging a version of Peter Pan. “We worked together so closely. It was big scenes, and I think we shot like a week and a half or two weeks — it was a long shoot, and I just sort of got to know him and liked him a lot.”
After filming ended, June Squibb said their friendship grew stronger and remains strong to this day. She mentioned that they started having dinner together, and she got to know his partner, Will Sherrod. The veteran actress said, “I adore, too. It was just great fun.”
Squibb was asked if she advises younger friends like Colfer. She said, “If I like someone, I don’t think I ever think in terms of how old they are. If I feel an affinity, that there’s something here that I want to be more a part of… I mean, why would I tell anyone what to do?”
Their long-lasting friendship is a reminder that age doesn’t matter when it comes to forming a genuine connection with good people.
