Prince William surprised DWTS contestant Robert Irwin with a motivating video message, leaving everyone starstruck. The surprise cameo marks the royal’s first-ever appearance on the show.
Robert Irwin receives a video message from Prince William on Dancing with the Stars
Prince William made a virtual cameo on the November 11 episode of Dancing With The Stars to cheer on Robert Irwin. The Prince of Wales shared a supportive message for the wildlife conservationist and his professional dance partner Witney Carson.
“We’re missing you, Robert,” the heir apparent began. “Whilst your twinkle toes are going off elsewhere, I need you down here,” the royal added.
During rehearsals, Irwin had revealed that he was supposed to be at the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, along with Prince William. However, he couldn’t make it there due to his DWTS schedule.
The Prince had a message for Carson as well, asking her “to get him [Irwin] in as much glitter as you can.” He then concluded the video message, saying, “Guys, you’ve got a seriously good chance of winning it. So, just the best of luck on the show.”
After the call, Carson remained awestruck by the interaction, saying, “I can’t believe he just said my name!”
Irwin then announced that he is dedicating his next performance to his sister Bindi and the Prince of Wales. The conservationist stated, “We are doing this dance for Bindi, and we are doing this dance for Prince William, so let’s not mess this up!”
Irwin and Carson then delivered a spectacular foxtrot routine to Leona Lewis’ 2007 song “Footprints in the Sand.” It is the same song that Mirrorball winner Bindi Irwin danced to in 2015, dedicating her performance to the siblings’ late father, the legendary wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin.
“There’s a lot of weight, because I really want it to be our best dance yet, to be honest,” Robert admitted ahead of the performance.
