Apple to Delay iPhone Air 2 Release For a Reason — Report

Apple has decided to delay the next version of its newly introduced iPhone Air, as per the latest report. iPhone Air is a thin, light, and high-performance phone, but it has proved to be disappointing in sales numbers. Despite praise for its look and feel, the device had to cut corners in the battery and camera zones to accommodate the signature experience in the thinnest package ever.

However, reports confirm that Apple is not going to pull the plug on the device entirely yet.

Apple might delay iPhone Air 2 release

As per the latest report from The Information, Apple has decided to delay the launch of iPhone Air 2, or the next phone in the newly introduced iPhone Air lineup. The ultra-thin device, which serves as an alternative to the base iPhone models, launched at a price of $999 this September. Apple had plans to swiftly follow it up with a new generation.

But it now seems that the company will take its time with a new iPhone Air after the first ultra-thin device failed to live up to expectations. The disappointing sales performance stems from the device’s high price point and its less-than-satisfactory performance. Due to its size and form factor, the phone sees significant cuts in camera and battery quality, without adding anything superior to compensate for other than style.

Facing competition from the cheaper but more powerful iPhone 17 and the vastly superior iPhone 17 Pro for a little extra cash, production of the iPhone Air has been slashed by 80%. (via PG Mag)

As per reports, Apple will not be slashing the lineup entirely, however. Instead, the company will work on it and perhaps make it better before releasing a follow-up. It could follow a more erratic release schedule, like the iPhone SE. As of now, no confirmed date for the next iPhone Air launch has been shared publicly.
