A major milestone approaches for Outlander as Starz confirms the release date for its highly anticipated final season. The long-running historical drama prepares to close out its decade-long story with new challenges and emotional turns ahead.
Outlander Season 8 comes out on Starz in March 2026
Starz has officially announced the premiere date for Outlander’s final season. The eighth and concluding installment of the time-travel romance will debut on March 6, 2026, marking the beginning of the end for Claire and Jamie Fraser’s story. The news comes months after the show wrapped its seventh season in January 2025.
The series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels. It stars Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, a WWII nurse who travels back in time, and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, an 18th-century Scottish warrior. The eighth season will feature 10 episodes and bring Outlander’s total to 101, making it Starz’s longest-running original series.
Starz teased in a press release, “Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence.” It continued, “With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together.”
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts discussed his approach to the final season at San Diego Comic-Con, stating, “The idea for the last season was to not try to top everything we’ve done but to just do a really good season of Outlander and make [the story] work.”
Actress Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna Fraser, added, “We’ve surpassed the books at this point. The writers have done such an incredible job of keeping that nostalgia but just injecting some stuff that you don’t expect.” (via Entertainment Weekly)
The Outlander franchise will continue beyond the main series. Starz has already renewed the prequel Blood of My Blood for a second season.
