Former NFL superstar Tom Brady has revealed that his current dog, named Junie, is actually a clone of his former pet, Lua, who passed away in December 2023. While Brady welcomed the dog right after Junie’s death, he has only just revealed the connection between his two pets.
Tom Brady’s dog Junie is a clone of his late family pet, Lua
In an official statement obtained by People, Brady confirmed that his current dog, Junie, is a clone of his late pit bull mix, Lua. Despite having acquired him in 2023, the seven-time Super Bowl champion decided to confirm the association at this time so as to coincide with the update published by the biotech organization, Colossal Biosciences, which worked with Brady to clone his previous dog successfully. Notably, the retired quarterback is also an investor in the Dallas-based company.
In his announcement, Brady also disclosed that Junie came to life by using Lua’s blood during the cloning process, which was collected before she died in 2023.
Having gained worldwide attention after claiming to have produced three dire wolf pups, Colossal Biosciences recently completed the acquisition of Viagen Pets and Equine, another biotech company.
Expressing his gratitude to the company that reunited him with Lua in the form of her clone, Junie, Brady noted, “I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family. A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”
The biotech giant “gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog,” Brady stated before adding that he is excited about “how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”
Brady and his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, welcomed Lua during their marriage, which ended in 2022.
