Katy Perry reportedly appears to be reflecting on her recent split with Orlando Bloom in her newly released song, “bandaids.” The 41-year-old singer unveiled the emotional track and an accompanying music video on Thursday. The lyrics center on efforts to “save a dying relationship,” which many believe mirror the end of her nearly decade-long relationship with Bloom, whom she reportedly separated from in June.
Katy Perry seemingly talks about Orlando Bloom split in new song ‘bandaids’
According to Page Six, Katy Perry’s latest single, “bandaids,” appears to explore the emotional aftermath of her breakup with actor Orlando Bloom. The singer, who reportedly ended her nearly decade-long relationship with Bloom in June, released the heartfelt track and its music video on Thursday.
In the song, Perry reflects on trying to salvage a failing relationship, singing, “Hand to God, I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t.” She continues, “Got so used to you letting me down / No use tryna send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t / Band-Aids over a broken heart.”
The chorus suggests the lengths she went to repair the relationship, with lyrics such as, “Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations / Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow.”
Perry also describes her partner’s lack of emotional effort, singing, “I’m flatlining tryna to save this.” As she concludes the song, the pop star acknowledges the value of the relationship: “If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end.”
While Perry never directly mentions Bloom, the music video reportedly contains subtle references to their relationship. Toward the end, as she sings about love being “worth it in the end,” a daisy appears, seemingly symbolizing her and Bloom’s daughter, Daisy.
