With Wedding Crashers fans continuing to gun for a Part 2, two decades after the release of the original film, Owen Wilson has provided a promising update regarding the much-awaited sequel. In a recent interview, the Academy Award nominee revealed that discussions about the second movie have been ongoing for some time, and if the team can come up with an appropriate idea, the sequel might just end up happening.
Owen Wilson says David Dobkin ‘has been working’ on a script for the Wedding Crashers sequel
The Darjeeling Limited star recently confirmed that David Dobkin, who helmed the original Wedding Crashers, already has a script about the proposed part 2.
“Yeah, there is a script and David Dobkin, who directed the first one, has been working on it, and we’ve been talking about it,” Owen Wilson noted to Collider’s Steve Weintraub, before adding, “It’s been nice talking to Vince [Vaughn], and it’s one of those movies that really seemed to connect with people. If we can come up with something we think could be great, then I’m sure we’ll do it.”
Featuring Wilson and Vince Vaughn in the lead, Wedding Crashers originally hit theaters back in 2005. The movie follows the misadventures of two bachelor friends who have developed a knack for crashing weddings in the hopes of securing no-strings-attached hook-ups. However, things get interesting when one of the two ends up falling in love while pursuing their usual one-night stands.
The film also has a stellar supporting cast, including Isla Fisher, Rachel McAdams, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, and Bradley Cooper, among others.
Wilson’s comments come after Fisher also provided a positive update on Wedding Crashers 2 in an earlier interview. Claiming that she had secured a visa to shoot the sequel in the US years ago, the Now You See Me star remarked, “I have a feeling that we’re waiting on Owen [Wilson]’s schedule. But I think [director] Dave Dobkin’s interested, and Vince [Vaughn]. All the ingredients are there.”
Despite Isla Fisher and Owen Wilson’s statements, Wedding Crashers 2 has yet to receive official confirmation from its makers.
