David Harbour talks about working with Winona Ryder
David Harbour said that his experience working with Winona Ryder was both inspiring and humbling. He explained, “I just feel so lucky to work with her. I have such a deep, deep love and respect for actors and what we do. I think that we’re so vulnerable putting our faces in these things that we have no control over, trying to show up and invest and create these imaginary worlds. And I think that people who have done that at a level where I believe them and fall in love with them in a fake reality, I just have such awe of it.” (via Esquire Spain)
David Harbour then added that he tries not to be a fan in her presence. It is out of respect for her work and the space that she needs. He says that his admiration for her comes from a professional place as much as a personal one.
Talking about his co-star, Harbour noted, “But I will say that I adore what she does, admire what she does. She’s such a deeply emotional human being that I could never be. I think she feels things in a way that I could never feel them. She has a brain that… my brain couldn’t stretch to that amount of empathy. She’s just an extraordinary creature. I’ve been so lucky to work with her and be close to her.”
Stranger Things season 5 will drop on Netflix on November 26, 2025, and is scheduled to release in two parts. It will star David Harbour as Jim Hopper and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers. The show will also bring the extensive line-up of the cast back for their iconic roles. Harbour and Ryder play on-screen couples.
