Carrie has turned 50 years old, and the film’s star, Sissy Spacek, talked about her experience making it in a recent interview. She also shared her thoughts on the upcoming television adaptation based on it.
Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, the film follows Carrie White. She is a shy teenager who is mercilessly bullied both at high school and at home. She eventually gains telekinetic powers and uses them to exact vengeance on those who tormented her.
Sissy Spacek talks about 50 years of Carrie
The Badlands star recently gave an interview promoting her new film, Die, My Love. During the discussion, the interviewer told the 75-year-old about Carrie’s 50th anniversary, which Spacek was excited to hear about. She was then asked which moment from the film stood out to her, and she remembered it vividly.
“How sticky movie blood is, it was terrible.” Sissy Spacek quipped to Entertainment Tonight. She spoke fondly of her experience, saying it was “wonderful” to collaborate with creatives who were passionate about their craft. She particularly highlighted director Brian De Palma, saying that Carrie was her favorite film from his filmography.
The Oscar winner also discussed how Carrie resonated with audiences. She stressed that children go through “so many changes” during the transition period from middle school to high school. Spacek emphasized that each person was a “wounded teenager” like Carrie. “Growing up is hard,” she added. “It’s kind of heartbreaking, it really hit a nerve that film,” she continued.
Spacek empathized with teenagers who experience bullying and wished them well, acknowledging how the troubles Carrie faced are still prevalent today. “If you’re a bully, we’re gonna get you,” she warned before jokingly asking if her warning was a form of bullying.
The Coal Miner’s Daughter actress was also asked about the possibility of making a cameo in the upcoming Carrie television series helmed by Mike Flanagan and if she was interested in it. Spacek denied the possibility but affirmed that she would be the “first in line” to check it out.
Production on the series wrapped on October 25, 2025. Flanagan confirmed the same on Instagram, calling his experience making the series one of the “best experiences of [his] career.”
