George Clooney recently shared his thoughts about Kamala Harris’ defeat in the 2024 Presidential Elections.
“I think it was a mistake, quite honestly. But we are where we are,” he said during his interview on CBS’ Sunday Morning. He explained how he thinks that the mistake with Harris being the presidential candidate for the democratic party was that she had to “run against her own record.” Clooney then continued, “It’s very hard to do if the point of running is to say, ‘I’m not that person’. It’s hard to do and so she was given a very tough task.”
When asked whether, looking back on his 2024 op-ed for The New York Times, he would write it again, Clooney answered without hesitation. “We had a chance,” he said. “I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary,” Clooney added.
Further, when questioned if he had seen Hunter Biden’s response to the op-ed, Clooney offered a subtle smile and said, “Yeah, I saw it.” He explained how he doesn’t find it helpful to have a public spat with Hunter. “I could spend a lot of time debunking many of the things he said … but the reality is, I don’t think looking backwards like that is helpful to anyone. Obama didn’t put me up to it, it wasn’t my fundraiser, it was my fundraiser — all the things,” Clooney shared.
The Ocean’s Eleven actor continued to add how looking backwards in that way isn’t helpful to anyone, not to the democratic party, and especially not to Hunter. He then wished Hunter well on his ongoing recovery and said he would like to just leave it at that. “I have many personal opinions about it, but I don’t find it to be helpful to have a public spat with him,” he concluded.
