The Rookie is all set to return with its much-awaited Season 8, as its release date was recently revealed. Created by Alexi Hawley, the show debuted in October 2018 on ABC. Meanwhile, Season 7 of The Rookie arrived in January 2025, airing its final episode in May of the same year. The police procedural drama series features Nathan Fillion in the titular role.
The Rookie Season 8 gets January 2026 release date
ABC has announced that its popular series, The Rookie, will return with its Season 8 in January 2026. Additionally, a promo was released by the network online, revealing the release date to be January 6.
The caption of the Instagram video stated, “They’ve seen it all… almost. #TheRookie goes international on a new season, premiering January 6 on ABC! Stream on Hulu.” The Rookie Season 8 promo features Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan. He promises to “do his best” in a global operation involving terrorist targets.
The Rookie is the story of Fillion’s character, Jonathan Nolan, who is “the oldest rookie in the LAPD.” Apart from ABC, fans can also stream the previous and upcoming episodes of the show on Hulu.
While not much about the plot of the upcoming season is available, actress Jenna Diwan spilled some details while talking to PureWow recently. She told the outlet, “I’m really excited for the first episode because we go international. We have a very cool storyline that takes us into a new country. It felt like a film. The locations were gorgeous, and the action scenes were major. I do think The Rookie fans will be so happily fulfilled when they see this first episode because it’s different for us and it’s bigger for us. And I think it’ll be really exciting.”
On the other hand, Nathan Fillion also shared a gratitude note in April as he announced that The Rookie will return for Season 8. He shared a video on Instagram and wrote that it is “truly challenging and rare it is to have a long-running show.”
The Superman star further stated, “Thank you all for sticking around for these 7 seasons- it’s because of you that we are announcing Season 8!!”
