Megan Fox Once Felt Lost & Rageful Over Newfound Fame

Megan Fox recently reflected on the years surrounding “Jennifer’s Body,” admitting it was not easy to manage fame and paparazzi around that time. Fox said they were some of the hardest years of her career. Speaking at a special Los Angeles screening on October 25, the actor described how she felt overwhelmed by sudden fame and constant cameras, and how that pressure shaped both her mood and her performance in the 2009 film.

Megan Fox details struggles with fame and paparazzi while filming ‘Jennifer’s Body’

PEOPLE reported Megan Fox’s confession on dealing with fame and paparazzi after “Jennifer’s Body.” She said she would not try to change who she was back then because the turmoil is part of why the role worked. Fox said, “I think where I was at that point in my life, so lost, so full of that rage that I had towards how I had been treated in the industry,” explaining that she was “dealing with fame” when production began.

She added that paparazzi behavior at the time often crossed a line. Recalling a premiere that same year, she said photographers shouted insults as she tried to reach her car. Fox recalled someone asking, “Megan, do you think you’re overrated? The internet says so,” all while she was only doing her job.

Those experiences, she said, fed into Jennifer Check, a popular teen who becomes a monster after a violent ritual in the film. She told the audience, “I felt like I was being persecuted at that time in my career, and I was struggling a lot with fame and kind of traumatized by fame.” Playing Jennifer “gave me a place to put those qualities of myself that are really unhinged, that are not appropriate to express every day of your life,” the actor recalled. As such, Fox called the work “very cathartic.”

Finally, Fox suggested that the raw emotions of dealing with her fame and paparazzi after “Jennifer’s Body” helped the final result. As she concluded, “If I had been able to warn myself or give myself advice or have any sort of grounding or clarity, I don’t think you would’ve gotten the performance that you got.” Now, years later, the movie and Fox’s legacy continue to grow.
