The speculation followed the reports that both Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Bond 26 director Denis Villeneuve were interested in casting her in the new iteration of the 007 franchise.
The insider added that Villeneuve viewed Sweeney as “hugely talented,” with an appeal to “younger generations”, a quality seen as key to modernizing the franchise. The source also noted that the actor’s “athletic” and “feminine” qualities made her a fitting addition to the legacy of Bond women.
Meanwhile, Sweeney, 28, responded to the casting speculation in her Variety- Power of Women cover story published on Monday. When asked about the rumors, she added, “I don’t know.” The actor clarified that she isn’t familiar with “all the Bond rumors,” but said she has “always been a huge fan of the franchise” and is “excited and curious” to see what direction it takes.
