Maksim Chmerkovskiy criticized Dancing with the Stars for casting Taylor Swift’s backup dancer, Jan Ravnik, as a pro. He argued that Ravnik doesn’t deserve the status he’s been given on the show and lacks an understanding of true partnership. To back up his point, Chmerkovskiy referenced Jen Affleck and Ravnik’s October 21 performance. Affleck later addressed his harsh criticism, speaking out in support of her partner.
What did Maksim Chmerkovskiy say about DWTS Pro Jan Ravnik?
In the podcast interview with The Penthouse With Peta, Chmerkoskiy expressed his disappointment with DWTS’s decision to regard Ravnik as pro.
He said, “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars. There’s zero foundation technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional. It is absurd, and this is unreal how blind we have to be and God forbid say what’s obviously there.”
To support his criticism of Ravnik, he pointed out his and Affleck’s performance during the Wicked night. He slammed Ravnik for having no clue what the foxtrot technique looks like. “How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different from even ballroom dancing? We had this criticism weeks ago, and I’m like, ‘Bro is anybody going to explain it to him?'” he added.
Jen Affleck defends Jan Ravnik
On October 27, Jen appeared to be typing furiously on her phone as Ravnik sat beside her in a TikTok video.
The clip’s background was “Take it down, take it down, take it down, we need it gone. Take it down, that doesn’t represent me or what we need to be doing.” Jen stopped typing, appeared annoyed, and rolled her eyes. In the clip, she wrote, “Me when anyone talks trash about Jan.” Her caption also read, “We don’t tolerate Jan slander in this house.”
