Kim Kardashian Wore Mask To Show She Was Silenced — Source

Kim Kardashian’s masked look at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala drew widespread attention, with some drawing comparisons to her masked appearance at the 2021 Met Gala. For the Museum Gala, Kardashian arrived in a nude Maison Margiela couture gown that covered her face and figure. Now, sources claim that the outfit was more than a fashion choice. It was meant to reflect how she felt during her marriage to Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian’s viral masked look is a ‘haunting metaphor,’ says source

According to Radar Online, Kim Kardashian’s masked look at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala denoted how she felt unseen, unheard, and shaped by someone else’s control when she was with Kanye West. A source close to the family said the look “was a statement.” They explained, “Kim felt invisible for years. The faceless mask perfectly captured how she was silenced and shaped by Kanye’s control. It’s one of the most haunting metaphors Hollywood has ever seen.”

Lipreader Nicola Hickling, who reviewed the footage from the gala, said Kardashian appeared to struggle under the veil. Hickling told Radar Online that Kardashian pleaded, “Don’t let go, I can’t see a thing,” and that an assistant replied, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ll lead you, just hold onto my hand.” That’s when Kardashian settled and continued forward.

Another source said the choice to cover up represented a larger story about image and control. They explained, “After Kanye, Kim has fought to reclaim her image. But every time she covers up, people see his shadow. That mask – the panic, the helplessness – said everything she never could about him.”

Now, Kim Kardashian’s masked look has become a point of discussion well beyond the red carpet. It stirred debate, the lipreader’s account added to the intrigue, and the sources’ remarks highlighted the move as a statement about how she felt when she was with West.
