Charli XCX has revealed that marriage was never something she pictured for herself, even while in a committed relationship with The 1975 drummer George Daniel. In a new Vanity Fair cover story, the 33-year-old singer shared her surprise at becoming a bride, following their July wedding in London and a second ceremony in Italy. She further talked about her married life, saying, “It’s cool to be married.”

In her latest cover story with Vanity Fair, Charli XCX opened up about her unexpected path to marriage and what made her two wedding celebrations with The 1975’s George Daniel feel personal and authentic. Despite tying the knot in July at London’s Hackney Town Hall and again in Sicily the following month, the “360” singer admitted that she never imagined herself getting married.
“I never really saw it for myself, to be honest,” Charli told Vanity Fair, adding that her perception of marriage was influenced by her parents, who only got married when she was 16. “One day they were, like, feeling it, and I think that’s so sweet,” she said of their spontaneous decision.
For the London ceremony, Charli wore a Vivienne Westwood gown she picked up just five days before the event. The couple kept things low-key, even grabbing breakfast at Allpress in Dalston before heading to the ceremony. “And then we just went and did it,” she recalled. “It was cute. He’s the best.” However, their second ceremony in Sicily was more elaborate.
Reflecting on the experience, Charli said, “It was cool to feel so in love, and do it our way,” noting that the couple didn’t want to be weighed down by conventional wedding expectations. She explained that they avoided treating it as “the day of your life as a woman” and instead approached it as “just another cool day.”
Reportedly, Charli also praised her relationship with Daniel, saying he deeply understands her highs and lows. “It feels very calming to have that,” she shared, adding that their ability to creatively support one another has strengthened their bond.
