As per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Sia’s estranged husband, Daniel Bernard, is demanding spousal support, citing no income claims. On October 9, the former radiation oncologist filed a petition in Los Angeles requesting $250,856 per month in spousal support from his ex-wife. Additionally, he needs $300,000 for legal fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting fees.
Bernard claims he has zero income after he stopped working as a physician in 2021. He took this decision to start a joint ketamine treatment clinic with the “Cheap Thrills” hitmaker. He states that his former wife knew his medical license would eventually expire due to his career shift.
The now ex-spouses also formed a company, Modern Medicine, in 2022. However, according to the documents, Sia stopped funding the company in March, the month she filed for divorce. Since then, Bernad has not been getting a salary despite an alleged agreement stating that he would continue in the business through July. According to the petition, the two were living a “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle.”
Bernad further stated, “I request that the court order Sia to pay me temporary spousal support in the sum of $250,856 per month.” He said, “Orders are necessary at this time because I am financially dependent on Sia, the breadwinner in our marriage.” He stated he has “no income, and Sia has ceased all funding for Modern Medicine.”
The former doctor continued, “Sia has the ability to pay me spousal support to maintain our financial status quo.” Moreover, he stated that his request for legal fees and forensic accounting fees will “level the playing field” between him and the “Unstoppable” singer.
Daniel Bernad allegedly “will need to complete several years of training and pass rigorous exams” to renew his certification. During the divorce filing, the musician reportedly paid for him to stay in a hotel through July. Further, he moved to his current home, for which he paid a $100,000 lease for a year. According to the documents, he asked Sia to repay, but she refused.
