Channing Tatum Amazed by Iconic 22 Jump Street Meme’s Relevance

Having starred in numerous highly acclaimed movies and portrayed multiple iconic roles, Channing Tatum‘s career has been a prosperous one. The Magic Mike actor mirrored our astonishment upon learning that he is most remembered for a viral meme. Not his movies, nor his dancing skills, but for a quote from 22 Jump Street that has now become a viral meme.

Channing Tatum still hears the ‘My name is Jeff’ meme all the time

While speaking about the meme’s ongoing popularity, Channing Tatum revealed that the “My Name Is Jeff” meme didn’t strike him as particularly funny or memorable during filming. In the famous scene, Tatum’s character, Jenko, awkwardly answers, “My name is Jeff,” in a high-pitched tone while undercover, unintentionally creating one of the internet’s most enduring memes.

The iconic scene is making its comeback in Tatum’s new film, Roofman. The Step Up Actor will again play Jeff in the upcoming crime comedy. Tatum addressed the coincidence in an interview with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant, ahead of the release of Roofman. The actor acknowledged that he didn’t initially consider the crossover.

Considering its relevance in the present day, the actor admitted he should recognise and own it. “I hear it every single time I go through TSA. Someone in TSA, I’d say over 95% of the time, goes ‘My name’s Jeff’,” Tatum added.

Roofman, starring Channing Tatum as Jeffrey Manchester, is based on a true story. The plot involves Jeffrey robbing a string of McDonald’s by breaking in through their roofs at night. The character hides out in a Toys “R” us for months before eventually getting caught and sent to jail. While lying low, Jeff adopts a new identity and falls in love with an employee. Smitten in love, he goes on to risk his liberty for a shot at real love.

Roofman has seemingly impressed both critics and viewers. Critics concur, with the film officially “Certified Fresh” along with a handsome score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.
