Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s rumored relationship appears to be gaining momentum. The duo, who were first romantically linked together in July, were recently photographed sharing a kiss on a yacht’s roof off the coast of Santa Barbara, further fueling speculations about their romance.
Justin Trudeau has been pursuing Katy Perry ever since they met in Montreal, says source
According to a source close to Katy Perry, who spoke to PEOPLE about their relationship, she and Justin Trudeau share an “easy connection.” Moreover, the rumored couple has reportedly maintained close contact since their meeting in Montreal earlier this year.
The insider revealed that Perry wasn’t looking to date when she first spent time with Trudeau. “When she first hung out with Justin, she wasn’t looking to date, but they stayed in touch,” the source explained. “They have many shared interests and a lot to talk about, but Katy was navigating too many things to even think about dating then.”
Trudeau, however, continued “pursuing her since” their meeting in Montreal, the source added. “He even flew to California to see her during a tour break. She finds him attractive. He’s been very respectful.”
The “Firework” singer and the politician first drew attention when they were spotted together. They were walking a dog and then grabbed some drinks at Taverne Atlantic in Montreal. The pair followed it up with a dinner at Le Violon, a popular local restaurant.
Days later, Trudeau attended Perry’s concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre. He was accompanied by his daughter, Ella-Grace, singing along to the pop star’s song “Dark Horse.” A source previously told PEOPLE that Perry and Trudeau shared an “instant connection” but are taking things slowly due to their busy schedules.
“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the insider said. “She’s travelling around the world, and he’s figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction.”
