Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Could Return in Beloved Role

Dwayne Johnson might be returning to play the role of the Scorpion King. The actor made his movie debut with the character in the 2001 movie The Mummy Returns, beginning his journey as a film star. He later reprised the role to lead the 2002 spin-off movie The Scorpion King.

Dwayne Johnson rumored to be back as Scorpion King

According to a new scoop by insider My Time To Shine Hello (MTTSH), Dwayne Johnson could reprise his role as the Scorpion King in the future.

MTTSH wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “The Rock is in talks to return as the Scorpion King.” However, this has not been confirmed by the actor himself. A reboot of The Mummy is happening with director Lee Cronin, which is expected to come out on April 17, 2026. However, there is no concrete information on whether Johnson will return as Scorpion King for that project or any other.

In December 2020, Deadline reported that Johnson was teaming up with Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions to reboot The Scorpion King movie. It was also reported that Jonathan Herman would write the script.

At that time, the actor reminisced that the Scorpion King was his “very first role ever on the silver screen.” The actor further stated that he felt “honored and excited” to bring the character to a new generation and reboot the 2002 spin-off. He added that he was “lucky enough” to land the role of The Scorpion King, which gave his career a kickstart. Johnson also praised Herman and said that he believed that the scriptwriter “will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script.”

However, there has been no update on the reboot from Johnson yet, whose new film, The Smashing Machine, was recently released in theaters.
