Speculation about Marvel Studios’ long-awaited X-Men reboot has gained traction following a recent discussion on The Hot Mic podcast. During the episode, Jeff Sneider and John Rocha explored the film’s potential release window. Sneider claimed that Marvel’s upcoming May 2028 slot is likely reserved for the X-Men movie, a project fans have been eagerly awaiting.
The conversation began when Rocha asked Sneider if he wanted to reveal his “big thing” or hold it for later. Sneider responded, “Well, yeah, there’s obviously a bunch of Marvel placeholder release dates right now.” Rocha agreed, saying, “Yes, there are quite a few.” Sneider then added, “I’m pretty sure there’s one on May 5th. And I’m pretty sure the movie that we’re going to see in summer 2028 from Marvel is X-Men.”
Rocha was quick to ask for clarification, “You think it’s going to be X-Men, the movie that comes in May 2028 from Marvel?” to which Sneider replied, “That’s what I’m hearing.” The discussion also touched on how this release might connect to Avengers: Secret Wars, reportedly slated for late December 2027. Rocha recalled previous reports that suggested X-Men would premiere about three months after Secret Wars. Sneider corrected him, saying, “Five months.”
While Marvel has not confirmed anything yet, Sneider is a credible industry scooper. Additionally, the studio often schedules its major films for May releases.
Michael Lesslie is writing the screenplay, with Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier set to direct the film. Marvel has yet to reveal who will lead the cast of its X-Men reboot.
