Sources have told Nexus Point News that Danielle Deadwyler is in talks to star in Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files series for 20th Century Television. Deadwyler will reportedly portray one of the lead investigators opposite a male co-lead. Coogler began developing the project in 2023 and plans to write the pilot, as well as serve as an executive producer and potentially director.

Coogler is developing the reboot with The X-Files creator Chris Carter, who confirmed meeting with Coogler to discuss the project. The original X-Files aired from 1993 to 2002 and returned in 2016 for two more seasons, totaling 218 episodes.

The series produced two feature films, The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008), starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Coogler also met with Anderson about the reboot, though she recently said she has no plans to return to the role.

In an interview with The National, Anderson said, “No, I don’t miss Dana Scully… I feel like, on the whole, I’ve said all that needs to be said about her. I’m not sure that I have anything left to add to that conversation. Sorry.” Anderson will next appear on screens in Disney’s Tron: Ares, and she emphasized her focus on new roles and challenges.

Coogler’s recent projects include the hit movies Sinners and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Deadwyler, known for Till and The Harder They Fall, will next appear as Zelma Redding in Otis & Zelma. The X-Files reboot remains in early development under 20th Century Television.
